Mannahatta at The William Vale Hotel
In 2014, the William Vale Hotel partnered with the Brooklyn Arts Council to put out a call for submissions to find an artist to create a site-specific artwork for the new hotel’s lobby. The hotel received an overwhelming response to the call.
The finalists were chosen by James Bartlett, the Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), Deborah Bright, the Chair of Fine Art at the Pratt Institute and Catherine J. Morris, curator at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Brooklyn Museum. The submission process and review was facilitated by the Brooklyn Arts Council. The commission was awarded to Brooklyn, NY, artist Marela Zacarias and will be installed in the lobby of the William Vale Hotel in winter 2016.
Sam Mogelonsky conceived, developed, organized and administrated the commission with the William Vale Hotel, Brooklyn Arts Council and LMA Communications Inc.
