Working with Darryn Doull, Curator of Canadian Art at The Rooms in St. John’s, Newfoundland, I created the design for a 48 page book from the exhibition Philippa Jones: Suspended (Winter 2019). The book includes two essays and exhibition documentation. Taking a note from the installations, I used the circle shape as a feature that is carried throughout the book. The grey card cover echos the grey walls used in the exhibition. The use of the gold foil on the cover is a reference to the gold foil bench that was central to the exhibition. In the bottom of each corner the reader will find a drawing of a bird. When the pages are flipped, the bird “animates” and comes to life, inspired by a flip-book animation.
